Where we started and how far we've come.
We’re Dr. Emma Andre and Dr. Derek Andre, a married team of naturopathic doctors called to this work through both personal and professional experience. In the span of just four years, our family walked through profound trauma, loss, and grief—experiences that shattered life as we knew it, and ultimately opened the door to something greater. It was through this unraveling that we discovered the healing power of ketamine and psychedelic therapy, not just as physicians, but as humans searching for meaning, peace, and reconnection.
Along the way, we’ve witnessed the silent weight that anxiety, depression, trauma, and despair place on the hearts of so many we love. These moments became sacred teachers, revealing that true healing begins when we turn inward—when we honor the wisdom of the body, the truth of the soul, and the light that still lives within us, even in the darkest moments. This is why we do this work. This is the essence of Medicine Within.

We believe that every person has the innate potential to experience peace, joy, and meaningful connection. True healing happens when we go beyond symptoms to address the root causes of suffering by empowering you to take an active role in your own journey. Through genuine connection, a holistic approach, and guidance in accessing your own inner wisdom, we help you transform not only your health, but your entire experience of life.
As naturopathic doctors with over 33 years of combined experience in healthcare, we come from a medical tradition that honors the body’s innate ability to heal. Our training began at a rigorous integrative medical school that emphasized whole-person care and a strong foundation in both conventional and natural medicines. Early in our clinical work, we began to notice a consistent pattern—many physical symptoms are rooted in the mental, emotional, and spiritual realms.

This realization sparked a deep interest in mind-body medicine. That growing interest combined with navigating several years of personal loss, grief, and trauma ultimately led us to ketamine therapy. Over the past decade, we’ve focused our ongoing medical training and clinical practice on the cutting-edge field of psychedelic therapy. We combine our background in holistic and integrative medicine with the transformative potential of ketamine to support meaningful, lasting healing.

During the ketamine treatment session, patients wear eye shades and noise-cancelling headphones with ketamine-specific music playing while under the influence of ketamine. The journey tends to be a more inward experience, with physician-led support before and after to properly prepare for and integrate (or process) the experience. Treatment sessions can be done at home or in person at our comfortable and private facility in Bend, Oregon. Most patients choose to conduct all other appointments virtually, but appointments can also be done in person if patients prefer.
During your ketamine session, you’ll wear eyeshades and noise-canceling headphones while listening to carefully curated music designed to support the experience. The journey is deeply inward and reflective, with physician-led guidance before and after to help you prepare and integrate what arises.
Medicine sessions can take place in the comfort of your own home or in person at our

Ketamine supports brain health by enhancing learning, memory, and mood regulation. In conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD, brain neurons shrink and lose connections. Ketamine stimulates neuroplasticity—encouraging growth and flexibility in neurons—helping the brain rewire itself in healthier ways.
This ability to promote rapid and lasting change may explain ketamine’s fast-acting
effects and its focus on addressing root causes of mental health challenges.
Ketamine also reduces inflammation in the brain, which can improve mood, cognition,
and overall mindset.
Its psychedelic and dissociative effects open doors to new perspectives and emotional breakthroughs. Through our comprehensive preparation, guidance, and integration, we help you fully benefit from these insights and support the brain’s healing process.
We offer small group ketamine therapy sessions for 3–7 participants, held in-person
twice a month. Each participant follows the same foundational steps as in our individual treatment process. All intake appointments and integrations are one-on-one with a physician, while the preparation and medicine sessions are experienced together as a group.
During the Medicine Session, all participants wear eyeshades and noise-canceling
headphones to support an inward, personal journey. There is no group discussion or
therapy while under the influence of ketamine as this part of the experience is deeply
private. Afterward, our physicians guide the group in processing and grounding the
experience. The deeper work of personal integration is then done individually.
Many participants describe a powerful sense of connection, community, and shared
humanity that enhances the healing process. Group therapy also offers a more
accessible investment, with the cost significantly lower than individual treatment.
Ketamine has been safely used in hospitals and emergency settings as an anesthetic
and pain reliever since the 1970s. Over the past two decades, lower doses have also
been shown to safely and effectively support mental health when used alongside
psychotherapy.
At Medicine Within, our physicians conduct a thorough health evaluation to ensure
ketamine is an appropriate and safe option for you. In a controlled medical setting like
ours, ketamine is very safe. While it can be habit-forming when misused
recreationally—especially at high doses—this risk is minimized under proper medical
supervision and when used at therapeutic doses.
Many clients begin to notice relief within hours or days of their first session. For others, it may take a few treatments to feel the full effects. Most people report significant improvement after 3–5 sessions. A small series of sessions is typically needed to assess the full extent of ketamine’s benefits.
Beyond immediate symptom relief, ketamine supports the growth of new neural
connections, opens pathways for emotional healing, and often leads to powerful
insights. When these are worked with in integration, these changes can lay the
foundation for lasting transformation and a more fulfilling quality of life.
